Another “Why didn’t I think of this?” moment, brought to you by iDoneThis, a web app that makes it dead simple to track your team’s daily progress:

iDoneThis makes it easy to track and celebrate the progress that you make at work every day. We email you at day’s end and ask, “What’d you get done today?” Just reply. The next morning, you’ll get a digest that shows you the team’s accomplishments from yesterday. Start a conversation and share your thanks.

This seems like a phenomenal idea for small businesses. I immediately wanted to sign up, but realized I didn’t need to pay $3/mo just to email myself. Instead, I created a couple of recipes in IFTTT to simulate iDoneThis’ functionality:

Recipe #1: Every day at 5pm, send an message from my Gmail account to my work email account with subject line, “What did you do today?”

Recipe #2: Append my reply to a plain text file stored in my Dropbox.

The result is a running diary of my daily activities, stored (and backed up) in Dropbox, in a plain text file that’s fully searchable.

Bonus IFTTT recipes: archive all your tweets in a plain text file in Dropbox, and send all tweets with the #in hashtag to LinkedIn (replacing the feature that was recently dropped by Twitter).
