Long before we became a beacon of IT service excellence, our roots were firmly planted in the humble beginnings of a family-owned business. In 1946, our CEO's grandfather, Gordon Kellogg, opened a small hardware store in eastern North Carolina. This wasn't just any store; it was a community cornerstone, where every customer was treated like family.

Tom grew up immersed in this culture of efficient customer service, learning invaluable lessons from his father and grandfather. These lessons became the bedrock of Sterling Technology Solutions.

The dawn of a new era in IT solutions

The year 2003 marked a significant milestone in our journey. This pivotal moment was the culmination of our CEO's vision, shaped by his rich heritage and his own professional experiences. After working as a network administrator in Washington DC, Tom moved to Charlotte, North Carolina, with a mission.

His first project, involving a simple but transformative task of setting up a network for a small company, sparked a realization. He saw the profound impact of efficient technology solutions on business operations. This experience ignited his passion to empower businesses through technology, leading to the birth of Sterling Technology Solutions.

Real stories, real results

One of our clients, FSI Office, was on an old server-based system running Windows Server 2003.  They had a cluster of Windows Server 2003 servers that ran several crucial applications for their business.  These applications included Exchange 2003, a line of business applications, file system & a Citrix remote access server.  FSI was using an ancient Citrix product to remotely access their email, business application & file system.  Due to the age of all the software and hardware involved, various systems would fail frequently and their business would grind to a halt.  We came in, identified the problem and arranged for a cloud-based solution.  

We completely eliminated the Citrix server, moved their files and line of business applications to modern server operating systems, migrated them from on-premises Exchange to Office365 and updated the version of Microsoft Office from 2003 to the latest version on ~200 computers, all in a single weekend.  Most of our employees worked through the weekend to make this happen.  The client could not have been happier, they mentioned that we exceeded all their expectations on the project outcome.

The Blanchard Institute has 3 locations and ~60 users.  It was also common for them to login remotely via VPN.  Rather than replacing their server, we migrated them to Sharepoint and converted all computers to authenticate through Azure Active Directory.  This allowed them to completely eliminate their server & need for VPN connectivity.  

Their users became completely mobile and could work from anywhere.  They Sharepoint licensing was already included as part of their Office365 subscription, so they incurred no additional monthly fees.

Donald Automotive Group (Audi of Charlotte) was mandated by the FTC to meet a strict set of compliance requirements in order to protect customer data.  Violation of these requirements results in a heavy fine.  We came in and implemented an EDR, MDR, secuity awareness training, MFA on all email addresses & computers.

As a result of implementing these security features that are part of our standard stack, they were able to comply with FTC regulations.
